The Calder Quartet
8:00 pm, Saturday
March 5, 2011
Hering Auditorium
The Calder Quartet at Fairbanks Concert Association

So here’s how it happened:

I saw them on TV — Letterman maybe? — and they were great. I later learned more. This a very proficient string quartet. Polished, professional, seasoned, gifted. Yet they also take risks, try new things, collaborate, expand their horizons. (Come to think of it, sounds a lot like FCA, which makes them a perfect match for us.)

What can I tell you? They perform traditional repertoire beautifully, so season ticket holders and classical music lovers, go for it. They’re a Sure Bet. But Calder also loves to partner with innovative composers and performers, and try things most traditional quartets wouldn’t even think of. They catch you with an element of danger and surprise you just don’t find in standard classical groups. So to all of you adventurous concert-goers, Fear No Art — give them a try.

Here’s the deal: Whether you’re into classics or into the avant garde, Calder will both satisfy and surprise you.
