So here’s how it happened:
A few years ago we decided not to program anything during the month of December. There is so much going on that demands local concertgoers’ time and energy. There’s the Nutcracker, the Fairbanks Symphony Orchestra, Fairbanks Drama Association holiday performances, and the usual shopping and holiday stress – let’s give our audience a break, we thought. Besides, just getting a venue during that time of year is always a challenge.

This was an opportunity we couldn’t pass up. Everything pointed to us doing a concert with them on Friday, December 3rd, but we couldn’t find a venue. Weeks went by, we hunted, we pleaded, we finagled. We looked at what was best for the community. We knew you would want us to find a way, we knew we had to work with everyone to make it happen. The compromise we reached was this: a Monday night performance. Not the most popular night for concertgoers, but then again, we are talking about the Preservation Hall Jazz Band.
So take a break from holiday stress, come celebrate the season with your whole family, and celebrate 50 years of one of the great groups in American music history.
Balcony tickets will be available at the door tonight, and the box office will open at 6pm. Join us at Hering Auditorium tonight for the event of the holiday season.
